Amazon Kindle Fire HD competes with Apple iPad

Amazon.com Inc has decided to go head to head with Apple Inc. in the tablet war by revealing its new versions of the Kindle Fire tablet as a direct challenger to the iPad, which is currently dominating the market with more than 2-3rd of the total sales. In this post we will compare the features of the Amazon's kindle Fire with that of the latest iPad. 

Screen size
iPad features both larger screen and higher resolution that Kindle. The iPad screen stands at 9.7 inches diagonally compared to the 8.9 inches Kindle screen. Moreover Apple is branding its retina display as the key difference between iPad and its contenders. 

Price
Price could be the key factor that could keep the Kindle going, Kindle Fire Tablets starts at a much lower price of about $159, when compared to the Apple iPad that have the starting price tag of about $499. The large Kindle Fire with the 4G capabilities may cost around $499 or $599 depending upon their storage capacity. At the same time iPad equipped with LTE capabilities cost around anywhere from $629 to $829 depending upon the storage.

Storage
Apple iPad comes in 16, 32 and 64 GB variants with Apple's iCloud service that allows further 5GB of storage with an option of paid extension. Kindle Fire HD with LTE comes in either 32GB or 64GB of storage and 20 GB of remote storage. Amazon also offers unlimited cloud storage of the content purchased from its stores. 

Wireless connectivity
Both devices supports Wi-Fi but Amazon comes with a dual-band, dual antenna WiFi, which allows for faster streaming and lower connection drops.
Both of the devices are available with 4G LTE. Apple comes with two carriers AT&T and Verizon whereas Amazon is only available with AT&T. 

Camera
Apple iPad comes with a 5 MP camera with 1080p recording but Amazon has still not revealed its camera specs. 

Battery
Apple claims about 10hr of battery life while surfing web, watching videos or listening music and 9 hr on 4G services. Kindle Fire comes with an battery life of about 9 hours. But Amazon had yet not provided the details for its 8.9 inch version.

Weight
iPad is about an inch wider and few grams heavier than the Kindle. the iPad weighs around 1.46 pounds and the Kindle Fire weighs around 1.25 pounds.

Hardware
Apple iPad has dual core processor designed for Apple. The Kindle Fire is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core chip. The Kindle Fire lacks GPS or gyroscope but has two ports more than iPad; USB 2.0 and a micro-HDMI port.

Apps
Apple says that there are about 225000 apps designed specially for the iPad. Amazon has not yet revealed the numbers for its Tablet that runs on a custom version of the Google's Android OS.
